BELVIDERE, Ill. — Makayla Taylor of Rockford Jefferson won the 100 meters in 13.51 and the 200 meters in 28.20 at a track and field meet held at Belvidere High School on Tuesday. The meet also included athletes from Belvidere, East, and Hononegah high schools. The change in venue was due to construction at Hononegah.
Other top finishers for Jefferson included Jalisa Robinson, who placed seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 13.85 and 11th in the 200 meters in 30.20.
Jefferson's 4x200 meter relay team finished first in 1:54.42. The team members were Jalisa Robinson, Dereona Edison, Mi'Aerie Goode, and Makayla Taylor. The 4x100 meter relay team placed second with a time of 53.57, consisting of Dereona Edison, Makayla Taylor, Mi'Aerie Goode, and Jalisa Robinson. The 4x400 meter relay team also took first place in 4:59.18, with runners Jernise Ellis, Dereona Edison, Jamareah Flint, and Alivyah Byrd.
In hurdle events, Kayliah Smith finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.39. Jernise Ellis placed sixth in 21.37, and Zakira Dobbins finished seventh in 21.90 in the same event.
Naomi Cultra won both the shot put with a distance of 9.47m and the discus with a throw of 23.65m.
Mi'Aerie Goode and Taejah Paschal tied for first place in the high jump, both clearing 1.37m. In the pole vault, Genesis Mendez-Torr... and Megidia Abayeva tied for fifth place with a height of 1.67m.
Akyra Champion finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 4.27m and third in the triple jump with a mark of 9.16m. Jernise Ellis won the triple jump with a distance of 9.32m, and Rayniah Johnson finished fourth in the same event with a jump of 8.69m. Kayliah Smith placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.08m.
Alivyah Byrd also participated in the 100 meters. Taejah Paschal, Gloria Herron, and Lanyia Smith competed in the 400 meters. Trinidad Cruz participated in the shot put and discus.
