BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Jefferson sophomore Janardie Turner delivered a standout performance at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Classic on Saturday, winning the boys’ 60-meter hurdles in the Class 3A division at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Turner crossed the finish line in 8.15 seconds, nearly a tenth of a second ahead of the second-place finisher, who clocked in at 8.24. His time not only secured the victory but also broke the Jefferson school record in the event dating back to at least 2009. Turner also competed in the long jump, finishing 10th in the state with a mark of 6.34 meters.
In the girls’ competition, Jefferson senior Naomi Cultra set a personal record in the shot put, registering a distance of 10.46 meters to place 12th in the state.
The Illinois Top Times Indoor Classic is regarded as the unofficial indoor state championship, bringing together top athletes from across Illinois.
