Jefferson Track and Field Opens Season at Auburn Invitational
The Jefferson High School track and field team kicked off their 2025 indoor season on Saturday, February 22, at the Auburn High School Boys Indoor Invitational. The J-Hawks showcased some strong individual performances, setting personal records and making a mark against a competitive field.
Top Varsity Performances
Varsity Long Jump: Sophomore Janardie Turner dominated the event, winning with a personal-best jump of 6.61 meters.
Varsity Hurdles: Turner continued his impressive day by winning the hurdles event with a time of 8.09 seconds. This outstanding performance ties him for 56th in the nation this year and makes him the fastest hurdler in Illinois so far this season.
Top JV Performances
JV Long Jump: Sophomore Kakusa Kasongo took first place with a leap of 5.77 meters, setting a new personal record.
Team Results The Jefferson varsity team placed 10th overall with 23 points in a competitive 24-team field. The JV squad finished in a three-way tie for 13th place with 14 points.
The J-Hawks will look to build on their early-season success as they continue their indoor campaign. With standout performances from Turner and Kasongo, Jefferson is off to a promising start in 2025.
